In Week 5 of this special six-part Mental Toughness Academy series on The Burn Podcast, Ben Newman brings everything together by introducing two of the most impactful tools for creating lasting success: The Prizefighter Day Morning and Your Legacy Statement.

After discovering your Burn, strengthening your belief, learning to reframe adversity, and building your Prize Fighter Day, it's time to create the daily routines and environment that make mental toughness a way of life. Ben explains why the first moments of your morning determine how you attack the rest of your day, how small disciplines compound into extraordinary results, and why the next level of your success is often just a matter of reclaiming your time.

You'll also learn how to build a Legacy Statement that brings together everything you've developed throughout the Mental Toughness Academy—your Burn, vision, I Am Statements, Prize Fighter Day, and personal standards—into one powerful daily reminder of who you're becoming. Ben also challenges you to identify the limiting beliefs, distractions, and environments that have been holding you back so you can intentionally create one that fuels continual peak performance.

This week isn't about learning something new. It's about putting every lesson into practice so your mindset, habits, and environment work together every single day.

Because your legacy isn't created someday.

It's built by the choices you make today.

Episode Kickoff And Week Five Goal

SPEAKER_00

Over the last four weeks, you've discovered your burn, strengthened your belief, learned how to reframe adversity, and built your prize fighter deck. Now it's time to make those tools part of who you are. Because mental toughness isn't built through occasional great moments. It's built through the daily routines, disciplines, and decisions that shape your identity. In week five, we're going to build your legacy statement, a powerful tool that connect everything you've learned into a daily system for continual peak performance. This is how you stop hoping for success and start designing it every single day. Your environment shapes your actions. Your actions shape your legacy.

The Chaotic Morning That Cost Me

SPEAKER_01

Now that we've taken you through and you've built your prize fighter day, now we need to talk about your prize fighter day morning. Over 15 years ago, I was the guy who would wake up at 6:30. At the time I was a financial advisor, building the credibility, success, and opportunity to now do this work. First time I was hired to speak was 2006. But even if I as I was driving that success, there would be those mornings where I'd wake up at 6:30, have to be at the office at 7:30, knowing that at 6:30, I had enough time to hit the snooze button three times. I would then wake up, almost run into the shower, almost be sweating, still sweating when you get out of the shower, leave the house. I would have said goodbye to Amy. We were newlyweds at the time, but I couldn't remember. Did I give her a kiss? Did I give her a hug? Did I give her a hug and a kiss? And I would rationalize the behavior. Well, of course I said goodbye. I wouldn't have any time for breakfast, hardly enough time to even grab a cup of coffee to go. And I would race to the office praying for green lights. You ever pray for green lights? And I would get those green lights and I would pull into the parking garage and I'd look down at my watch and I'd say, 727 on time. I did it again. And I would accept the behavior of rushing through a morning that way. Not acknowledging or having awareness that that type of race of a morning and that type of chaos that I was choosing would impact my mindset and keep me from having the ability to take on the challenge and adversity of the day. I'd pull in, look at that clock, look down at my phone, that red light would be blinking, a voicemail. And I would have a voicemail that would be something negative related to the business. And there was the start to my day. I wasn't equipped for it, I wasn't ready for it. And then there was one morning I finally looked in that rear view mirror and I said, I am sick and tired of choosing to show up this way, choosing for this to be my morning routine.

The Math Of Waking Up Earlier

SPEAKER_01

And I ended up deciding to wake up 15 minutes earlier. The next level of your success is a math problem. That 15 minutes went to 30 minutes. Once I went to 30 minutes and I built the discipline for 30, and here's where I want you to be careful in building a morning routine. First, we need to start waking up earlier to gain time back. If you're waking up at 6:30, got to be at the office at 7:30, we already know that's not enough time to be mentally prepared and to do the things you know you need to do to win your morning in order to put yourself in position to win your prize fighter day. By the time I got to 30 minutes, I started to recognize this is pretty interesting. 30 minutes times five days in a week was two and a half hours a week. It was an extra two and a half hours that I was giving myself back. Times four weeks in a month was 10 hours. That was like a full extra work day every month. Times 12 months in a year was an extra 12 days a year. My first job out of college when I was a paper broker. I was like Steve Corell out of the office. I was a paper broker selling newsprint, commercial print paper all over the country, living in Chicago. I had 10 vacation days. By waking up 30 minutes earlier, I had actually given myself more days in a year than I had vacation my first job ever. And then I went to an hour, and then it was like two hours earlier. And then I realized I could create tremendous distance from the competition by having a morning routine with the right amount of time, by doing everything I needed to do to dominate personally in my life, to have myself prepared to take on the professional, to be able to do the things that were of service, to win one day at a time because of a great morning routine. So I want to encourage you, and we put time back on the clock. I want you to be honest with yourself and I want you to scrutinize your morning routine. Are you waking up at the right time? Do you need to wake up earlier? Now be careful. Yes, the next level of your success is a math problem. Yes, you probably need to wake up earlier, but don't start waking up two or three hours earlier. You'll do it for three days and you'll quit. Build realistic disciplines by stacking new disciplines on top of each other. 15 minutes for a week or 15 minutes for two weeks, then go to 30 for a week or two weeks or a month, and then go to 45 and then go to an hour until it becomes a discipline.

Building Your Prize Fighter Morning Plan

SPEAKER_01

And then make sure, and we actually go through on the prize fighter day morning worksheet here, different elements that maybe should be part of your prize fighter day morning. Now, these are just suggestions. This doesn't have to be part of your prize fighter day morning, but these are things that I've consistently done or I've studied the highest performers do that are part of their morning routine. So it's important you understand them to maybe choose them for you in your morning routine. Wake up and connect to your burn. Hydrate, act of service or prayer, visualization, reading, organizing and preparing your day, working out, getting appropriate nutrition. There's eight examples here. It gives definition of every example. It gives you the opportunity to write down if you think these things would benefit you. It's time to build your prize fighter day morning. When you learn that the next level of your success is a math problem, whether it's stacking the behaviors of your prize fighter day with your workouts so you can get into better shape, whether it's your nutrition day after day after day to lose weight, to drive optimal performance, whether it's building a pipeline by doing the things you say you need to do, put math on your side. When it comes to your morning, take your time back, take ownership of your days. That is how you can win more. That is how you can gain time on your calendar. And a lot of people will look when you start driving this whole new level of performance and saying, boy, she cheats or he cheats. What is it that they do? Well, rather than showing up late, not owning every day, you start stacking every day, and then you buy back a lot of your time by waking up earlier, you'll end up working a 15-month year in 12 months or an 18-month year in 12 months. When most people don't do half of what they say they're gonna do. And then when we have a conversation with their action, we find out they really didn't want it that bad. That can't be you. What you've already done, the work we've already put in together with all these mental training tools, rewiring how you think, the importance of that burn. There's no more wasting days for you. Those new beliefs that you've been writing down for attaining belief in yourself. Now that you know the power to reframe the power of I am statements, you've built your prize fighter day. That's not you. It can't be you. That has to become unacceptable to you. Build your prize fighter day morning. We're gonna put 10 minutes back on the clock. We're gonna keep locking in. Remember, we're utilizing these tools and building the systems for you to attack continual peak performance in your life like you never thought

possible. This episode of The Burn is brought to you by our dear friends and partners at Q Logics. Now you know I don't co-sign things I don't believe in. And I believe in John Chiarando and the team at Q Logics. He's built multiple nine-figure businesses, real integrity, real character, the kind of guy you want in your corner. But here's what happened. All that expertise, all that knowledge, it was just his. Locked in his head, his decisions, his team, you couldn't access it. So John created Q Logics. He basically said, How do I make everything I've built available to people who actually need it? Here's what that looks like. QLogics helps you see the blind spots in your business, the gaps you don't even know you have. You don't know what you don't know. They're your tour guide through that. Q Logics helps you build systems that make your business work better or they ask better questions so you're approaching it in the most effective way. And Q Logics has access to a network of businesses and resources, real connections, real synergies that can accelerate what you're building. If any of that resonates, go to Q-Logics, L-O-G-I-X.com forward slash Ben. Fill out a form, their team will research your situation personally, then they'll tell you straight, can they actually help? Legacy Statement That Ties It Together

SPEAKER_01

The fifth mental training tool is your legacy statement. Remember at the beginning of our work together in this Mental Toughness Academy, we talked about building the environment all the way back to that burn that maybe you put on your phone. You change the alarm clock name on your phone. Your legacy statement is how we bring all of these tools together to then give you the opportunity and the choice to bring all of these tools from the Mental Toughness Playbook from our work in the Mental Toughness Academy onto one sheet, one place that can be in your environment every day, that when you connect to it, there's this burning desire from that burn that's ignited inside of you where all you want to do is win one day at a time to make sure that that legacy happens. Many individuals think that legacy is something that just happens after you're gone. I believe that legacy is something that you live every day. I wrote about it in a book that I wrote in 2014 called Leave Your Legacy. It's about leaving a living legacy. It came from the book Own Your Success in 2012. We carried it through into Leave Your Legacy, and then it became part of your legacy statement because it's your opportunity to live it every day with the intentional behavior and belief that you will not be one of those individuals who's buried in a cemetery, knowing that some of the greatest stories ever told were never told because people took them to the grave. Your legacy statement, when built the right way and when placed in the right environment, will connect you to all of the tools, all the work we've done. Imagine this. Think of the emotion when we talked about your birth. Think of the emotion you felt when we talked about attaining belief in yourself. Think about the emotion you felt when you realize that you control how you think and the decisions you make with the power to reframe. Think about the emotion you felt with I Am statements. Think about the emotion that you felt with your prize fighter day. Think about the emotion you felt with your prize fighter day mornings. Imagine all of that emotion, all that fire, all that passion, all that intentionality, stacking those days and knowing you can connect to all of it with your legacy statement. Quotes And Identity With I Am

SPEAKER_01

We're gonna put time back on that clock and it's time for you to go to work. All we're doing is now pulling everything together. There's nothing new to work on with the exception of some quotes that might fire you up. But you'll see up at the top, it says your burn. It's now gonna be in one place. It then says your vision. It has your I am statements, it has your prize fighter day, personal, professional, of service. It then has quotes that inspire you. You know, I don't know about you, but a lot of my work and personal development started with that high school basketball coach Todd Basler, who called me in 2011 to come fire up that underperforming high school basketball team. He used to have quotes in our locker room in 1995, 96, and 97 when I played for him. And I still remember the impact of those quotes today. So maybe there's a favorite quote, maybe there's a favorite verse, maybe there's something you need to remind yourself of every single day. One of my quotes, one of my verses is James 1:12. Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial, for when they have stood the test, they'll receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love them. This journey won't be easy. Life is not easy, it is a continued fight. That's why it takes mental toughness. That's why it takes intentionality, that's why it takes not thinking about things that you want, but designing what you want with this type of structure and intentionality, and then putting the action behind it. And then you'll see that there's your I am statement. It's saying the I am statements again. That's not a typo, it's there on purpose. Because we want you to say it once. Remember, that's the answer to the who are you question. So you're stepping into the belief of who you're becoming. So now we've pulled all of these tools together in one place. So think of all that emotion. You connect to it in one place. What happens to your action? I think we already know the answer.

Pull The Worksheets Together And Act

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna put 15 minutes back on the clock. I want you to focus and to lock in. Go back through the other worksheets, pull it all together. You're gonna pull your burn over, you're gonna pull your I am statements over, you're gonna pull your prize fighter day over, and we're gonna help you build your legacy state.
